The ATD Greater Las Vegas Chapter annual Tribute to Learning Awards recognize organizations for their creativity, innovation and futuristic approaches to learning.  Each year we look for the best learning leaders in southern Nevada. 

This year’s awards are based on an area of expertise on the  ATD competency model.  Each nomination should include the following information in their submission, in relation to how well it related to the Area of Expertise:

  • How was this area of expertise incorporated into your submission?
  • How was the area of expertise executed?
  • What was the business impact?
  • What did you learn from this experience?

Area of Expertise Category:  Performance Improvement

An organization’s ability to apply a systematic process for analyzing human performance gaps and for closing them.  Key components include conducting performance and cause analysis, finding approaches to selecting performance improvement solutions, and incorporating customer/stakeholder needs, evaluating results against organizational goals, and building and sustaining relationships.

Area of Expertise Category: Instructional Design

The ability to design and develop informal and formal learning solutions using a variety of methods.  Key action items include conducting needs assessment, identifying appropriate learning approaches and applying learning theory, collaborating with others, integrating technology options, and evaluating learning design.

Area of Expertise Category: Training Delivery

The ability to deliver effective training sessions through understanding of Instruction design theory & methods, use of Presentation techniques & tools for determining learning preferences, and incorporation of individual learning styles and cultural differences.  Key action steps include aligning learning solutions with course objectives and learner needs, delivering constructive feedback, and ensuring learning outcomes.

Area of Expertise Category: Learning Technologies

The ability to apply a variety of learning technologies to address specific learning needs. Use technology effectively across the different areas of expertise. Identify when and how to use technology as a training and development solution.

Area of Expertise Category: Evaluating Learning Impact

Be able to use learning metrics and analytics to measure the impact of learning solutions. This includes the ability to identify customer behavior, select appropriate strategies, research design, and measures; communicate and gain support for the evaluation plan; manage data collections; analyze and interpret data; apply learning analytics; and to make recommendations to aid decision-making.

Area of Expertise Category: Managing Learning Programs

To provide leadership to execute the organization’s people strategy; implements training projects and activities. This includes: establish a vision and strategies; implement action plans, develop and monitor the budget; manage staff; model leadership in developing people; manage others; manage and implement projects; manage external resources; ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.


Area of Expertise Category: Integrated Talent Management

The ability to manage talent through workplace planning approaches, Succession & replacement planning approaches, Career development theories and approaches, Individual & organizational assessment tools, and Resources for career exploration & lifelong learning.  Key action steps include Creating success profiles, Equipping managers with tools and skills to develop their people, and Conducting career counseling sessions.

Area of Expertise Category: Coaching

Demonstrate the ability to: Establish coaching agreement; establish trust and intimacy with the client; display coaching presence; demonstrate active listening; ask powerful questions; use direct communication; create awareness; design learning opportunities; develop goals and plans; manage progress and accountability; meet ethical guidelines and professional standards.

Area of Expertise Category: Knowledge Management

Capture, distribute, and archive intellectual capital to encourage knowledge-sharing and collaboration. This includes: Advocate knowledge management; benchmark knowledge management best practices and lessons learned; encourage collaboration; facilitate social learning; establish a knowledge culture; support the development of a knowledge management infrastructure; leverage technology; manage information life cycle; design and implement knowledge management solutions; transform knowledge into learning; evaluate knowledge management success. 

Area of Expertise Category: Change Management

Apply a systematic process to shift individuals, teams, and organizations from current state to desired state. Establish sponsorship and ownership for change; build involvement; create a contract for change; conduct diagnostic assessments; provide feedback; facilitate strategic planning for change; support the change intervention; encourage integration of change into organizational culture; manage consequences; evaluate change results.
